The Honduras conflict needs a speedy solution but without keeping coupists in power until elections, emphasized Salvadorian Foreign Minister Hugo Martinez.
A rapid solution without keeping the de facto President Roberto Micheletti in the government until elections (scheduled for next November), noted the diplomatic cited Tuesday by the local newspaper La Prensa Grafica.
If Micheletti would remain we would be sending the worst message to the inter American community, stressed Martinez. It would be assumed that Coups d’etat could be carried out, install a government, organize elections and to do as if nothing happened, for that reason it is important to advance to a quick solution, of course before November, he emphasized.
By the Minister’s opinion the Central American Integration System (SICA) is the first entity that must try to find a solution to this Coup since it is a natural entity for Honduras.
He also recalled the SICA pro tempore presidency is now occupied by Costa Rica President Oscar Arias for what he has to act as mediator.
Talks in Costa Rica will be resumed this weekend with the participation of commissions appointed by Honduras Constitutional President Manuel Zelaya and Coupist Micheletti. From the Nicaraguan capital Zelaya ordered the de facto government in his country to fulfill the resolutions imposed by the UN organization and the Organization of American States (OAS) in relation with reestablishment of constitutional order and the leader overthrown by force. If those demands are not fulfilled talks over solution of the situation in Honduras still with Costa Rica President Oscar Arias mediation are considered a failure, warned Zelaya.
